Exercise 9-A. Transcribe or read aloud the following words containing the letter ʕayn.

Exercise 9-B. Having learned the word for ‘four’, you should now be able to count from one to six. Can you read all these numbers correctly without any short vowels or other diacritics to guide you in their pronunciation?

Exercise 9-C. Pronounce or transcribe the following words containing the letter ghayn:

Exercise 9-E. Translate the following sentences and questions. An important new word introduced in this unit you will need to know for this exercise is مَعَ maʕa ‘with’. ِ

Exercise 9-G. Translate the following sentences containing ʕind. In one of the sentences you this word has the sense of ‘at someone’s place’ rather than ‘have’. Diacritics such as short vowels have been used sparingly.

Exercise 9-I. Translate the following phrases. Then practice pronouncing them, taking care not to make a break between the two words. Note how the initial ’a of the article has been dropped.

Exercise 9-K. Translate the following sentences. Diacritics such as short vowels have been used sparingly.
